Hello,
I'm trying to figure out if Field Maps is able to work for a workflow my team is developing for a client. The client is looking to collect features out in the field, which Field Maps is clearly suited for. However, they also want to be able to generate buffers around the collected features, and I have not been able to find any documentation saying whether or not it is possible to do this within Field Maps. Can Field Maps itself generate buffers around collected features, or does this require a separate solution?
Thank you!
This is definitely a needed feature within the Field Maps mobile app in offline capacity. Our use case is based off of the need to create polygon feature from either transect lines (that represent a survey or a centerline that needs to be represented by a polygon feature to generalize an affected or surveyed area), or a center point of an affected area, like a weed infestation and then the field user estimates the radius of the infestation from the center point and creates a buffered area polygon from that center point feature, vs having to painstakingly gps the perimeter of the infestation, or just digitize based on reference imagery or lidar data. We are deprecating our custom in-house developed S1 Mobile Mapper application has a function that allow the user to either select and existing feature (point, line or poly) and set a buffer distance and pick which editable line or polygon layer they want to create the buffered feature into, and then update the attributes for the new buffer poly or line while in the field and offline. We also allow users to use the current gps location to buffer the current location by a specified distance without needing to select an existing feature to buffer. Please Implement an offline capable buffer function for points lines and polys. This would be a very useful tool for field staff in many situations.
