Let me start that I really appreciate the new filter option in FieldMaps Designer. But it would amazing if multiple layers can be group filtered based on a common attribute/value. Just like the group filter in WAB and EXP. @JeffShaner 🙂

Hey @KaramKhattabBMCD thank you for the post and the mention.

Can you provide more details on the use case for group filters?

Thank you so much @JeffShaner for your quick response !! I appreciate it.

During fielding, we have 10-15 layers that have an attribute of CircuitID,  our field crew have to go to each layer and filter based on that Circuit ID, to only see the assets that have been collected for that circuit. this helps them visually and organize their efforts per circuit.

The current filter option is doing the job right now. But it would be way more efficient and easier for the user to simply filter all of these layers based on that common attribute to create that quick dynamic view of that circuit assets.

I know that someone might say, well create separate maps and put a CircuitID filter within the web-map to customize the view . We thought about that but you can just think about the effort of trying to maintain/ manage 10-15 maps per fielding effort and if a change happens to one, we need to do it 15 times.

Thank you and for the Field Maps team !

Thank you for the use case @KaramKhattabBMCD

I can see the value in this, especially for utilities. There are similar requests asking for filtering of group layers in ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro:

Would it be fair to assume you'd like this capability across our web and desktop apps as well?

Being able to filter all layers in a group within Field Maps would be useful for us as well. We often have web maps with several data collection template layers (e.g. general points, general lines, general polygons, JD points, JD lines, JD polygons, rare plant points, rare plant polygons, etc.) that all ave a ProjectID field, and sometimes projects overlap spatially.

I suggested a similar idea at the Developer Summit for the Attachment Viewer Instant App, where we display attachments from all these template layers and users often need to filter multiple layers to see only the features from the project they're interested in. I can also see this being a time saver in Pro.

@JeffShaner Thank you again for your response !

Yes I do think it is fair to assume that this is a functionality that needs to be across the products. Layers almost always need to be grouped and displayed by a clause. In Exp and WAB this was solved using their Group Filter widgets. I think it would be nice to have that live at the WEB MAP  level to cascade across.

@HollyTorpey_LSA  Thank you for your input ! I do agree that it would be really useful inside the Attachment viewer !

I kudos this (although for some reason that is disabled on this idea).

Our case is that we usually always have the main point layer and a view of it to symbolise by two different expressions using several attributes. One expression defines the colour and shape of the point, and another expression defines the colour and shape of the "halo" around it.  We need to use a view because we are always offline enabled in everything we do

We could combine the expressions but

  1. It would often create 100+ different symbols
  2. There is no symbol in AGOL ootb that does what we need.
  3. It would be a nightmare to maintain when one of the domains change which happens fairly often

Not sure if i explained that properly, but happy to jump on a call to explain.  We basically use this in all of our projects so i've got at least 50 examples i could show you.

Cheers.

Hi all,

I would just like to add my support @JeffShaner for further filter functionality similar to that seen in dashboards, WAB, and ExpB that triggers from a feature selection. My colleagues are responsible for inspecting farm compliance across Scotland for the the Scottish Government and the Field Map app does not allow this to happen and I need to "declutter" the map using a filter that triggers when we select a farm pin. The map contains many lines, points and polygons all related to the farm pin and we are desperately in need of functionality to screen out the neighbouring farms and their features to focus only on the farm of interest. Dashboards and ExpB does it beautifully.

I see it as critical functionality for anyone carrying out inspection based work.

Do you have this in the roadmap at all??

Thanks, Jonathan
