Saving my web maps today in ArcGIS Online (9-23-2011) disabled access to the same maps when trying to open them in ArcGIS Explorer Online. Error message "Unsupported webmap version number (1.4).

Anyone have a solution or explanation?

Did ESRI forget to patch ArcGIS Explorer Online?

Travis,

Explorer online was updated at the same time as ArcGIS Online. It sounds like your browser has the previous version cached. Clear your browser cache which will ensure you are working  latest version of explorer online and try to open the map again.

Same issue here (9/28/2011)
Cleared Cache in Chrome.  Didn't work.
Tried it on different workstations and different browsers. Using Chrome and IE8.  Same error.
Older webmaps seem ok.  I can open them in Explorer Online.

I create a web map, save, then try and open it in Explorer online and get the "Unsupported webmap version number (1.4)

Older webmap that works:
http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=cc57979c38b64350a34800972c8de266

tests 1, 2, and 3 that get the error:

Those maps open OK for me. There must be something cached that's causing the older version to run in your browser. In Chrome, when you clear the cache, be sure to select "the beginning of time" as the start point.

I am also having this problem.
I am creating brand new map (in ArcGIS Online) and when trying to view them in Explorer Online I receive the Unsupported Version message.
All caches have been cleared etc and all major browsers tried.
Do we have any update ESRI?

There's no new information on this - the current Explorer Online and ArcGIS.com map viewer both read and write the same version web map. Again, if you can share the maps that you have a problem with, we can double-check the contents and check opening the maps. There's a few things that I would check:
1. Is there any caching in the environment - e.g. is there a corporate proxy perhaps that could be handing back an old version to the browsers on your machine? (this really isnt my area, but I think given that all your browsers behave the same, it sounds like a sensible place to start).
2. Seeing as you said you'd got a range of browsers, I guess you'll have IE - check your IE cache and see what the Last Modified date is on the ExplorerOnline.xap that will be in your cache. For the latest version of Explorer Online, mine is 29th September 2011 - so if it's older than that, close IE and try manually deleting this (and any other cached files relating to explorer.arcgis.com), and re open IE, and then see what gets downloaded, and if the Last Modified date is newer. Similar for other browsers, but you'd need to install an approrpriate cache viewer.

Hi Shelly,
I have been able to access the maps via explorer online from another computer with a totally clean cache (Phew!).
However my PC is still an issue. I have bee using fiddler2 to view the traffic and it does download a new version of the .xap file.
However for the details of this file in the temp cache it has a last modified of 02/September/2011 and a cache name of ExplorerOnline[1].zip. On the working computer I have as you did the 29/September/2011
So this looks like the problem!!!
Being a SL developer I have had these cache issues before... but ExplorerOnline is being very persistent.
I have attempted the IE clear and a full delete contents of temp internet files but nothing doing...
I will keep trying to resolve this but if you have any other means to clear a cache let me know!
Many Thanks

Good news that the clean machine works. Though I'm not sure why you have ended up with a ExplorerOnline[1].xap - is there not an ExplorerOnline.xap present too? (marked as Hidden perhaps?).
I'm pretty sure I have occasionally seen problems where IE seems to be loading an older XAP, instead of getting a new file, but for me, a clearing of the cache sorts things out (either within IE, or manual delete of the offending XAP if I dont want to nuke my whole cache). I've not yet worked out under what circumstances caching problems can happen though, so do post back any more info if you think you know why this is happening (its possible that a crashed IE process with no lurking somewhere could prevent clearing of the cache properly).

Cheers,
Shelly

Shelly,
I have sorted it out for good! It took a lot of grinding of teeth over IE holding onto it's cache for dear life!
Eventually I found this http://goo.gl/EnzGr which shows you how to use Developer Tools in IE to not use the cache at all. After this IE and Chrome both worked!
