Reporting system for basemap errors?

Hi:

I just noticed a fairly serious error on the USA Topo (aka World Physical) Basemap: a trail is shown where there isn't one. I reported the error to the area's GIS person, who I know to be compiling errors on the Community Basemap for that area. Assume he'll pass it on to whoever his contact at ESRI is.

But generally, is there a reporting system in place? This particular trail has shown up many times over the years, first appearing in the USGS 7.5 minute quads in the early 80s. It's never been a trail and would take a hiker down a very serious ice chute. That, and others, were eliminated from the USGS draft quads many years ago, but obviously the base data still exists uncorrected. With all the problems caused by following GPS routes, it seems as if anyone publishing map data needs a very clear reporting and error correction protocol.

Anything at ESRI?

Thanks,

George

Hi George,

I dont know of an official reporting channel (there may be one, I'm not aware of anything though) - but I think a good place to start would be either the ArcGIS Online forum, or the Community Basemaps forum. I wasnt 100% sure which forum would be best, so I didnt move this thread over, but I think I would start with the ArcGIS Online forum as I know that's quite active.

Hi George,

If you are on the ArcGIS.com home page, you can click on the "contact us" link at the bottom and it will open an e-mail to arcgisonline_feedback@esri.com. You can report issues via the feedback link, or through forum postings. We actively monitor all channels, so what ever works best for you.

If you send in an e-mail to arcgisonline_feedback@esri.com, it's always helpful to include a mxd with book marks displaying the errors, or screenshots with help on finding this specific area of the world!

Cheers,
Andrew
