I would like to know if there is a  setting so that the data is non-editable in a map this is published with ArcGIS Explorer Online. Also, what would be the editing difference from a Shape File up-load vs data from a map service?

Thank you

There's no way to make a layer of editable features non-editable - features stored in the map are editable, and for features coming from a feature service, the editability is controlled by the service itself. So currently options for non-editable features are those from:
- a non-editable feature service
- a map service
- a WMS service
- any services that are in the basemap

You cannot edit features from a map service. Existing features in a shapefile can be edited or deleted, but there's currently no way to add features to these layers, although that is an enhancement we're looking at for a future release.

Hope this helps some,
