Friends,

I am trying to install ArcGIS Desktop 2500  on a co-worker's desktop.  I have made sure that all the Windows updates have been done.  The installation appears to go smoothly but when I click on the desktop icon to start the application, it looks like it will start then I get an error message to the effect that it had encountered an error (no details) and it has to close.  Boom....no other information.

I could really use some kind of help or suggestions on this because I really trying to pull this person kicking and screaming into this millenium and weaned from his paper maps.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Greg,

What kind of computer is it?

Make
OS
Graphics card

What type of install...  All users or just for current user? <-- its a question during the install.

Am I correct in assuming that no other version of ArcGIS Explorer had ever been installed on this computer?

On win8 we have seen where the first ever start is a bit wonky, but subsequent starts work out OK.

Thanks for your reply.  It's just your standard Dell desktop.  Ran the system requirements check and it checked out ok.  WINXPSP3 OS.  Never installed any ESRI product before.  I am planning on checking on the video driver and updating if necessary.  I assume that Explorer is a stand-alone install....i.e. doesn't need to have ArcGIS or anything else installed.  It's an all users install.

I'm going to check that video driver this afternoon and see what it does then post back.

Thanks!

Wellll.....I updated the video driver and AXD still crashes on startup.  I'm going to give ArcReader a shot nd see if it works.
