I have installed ARCGIS Explorer Build 1750 on an HP Windows 7 desktop.
When I start it, it DOES NOT display any map ??? I can't even display
one of the 6 base maps that are offered ???

Any help out there ?

I have the same problem, when i open ArcGIS Explorer it is blank.

I have tried to repair, I have deleted my cache(options/advanced), and I have tested my connection speed (options/resources) and the Network Route fails. . .

Anyone have any advice?

FYI, the workaround for this is to add the basemaps from arcGIS online, this is broken right now. . .

In fact on the support home page it states, "At ArcGIS 10.1 when adding a basemap from the "Add Basemap" Dialog in ArcMap, the coordinate system of the data frame is changed to WGS 1984 Web Mercator (auxiliary sphere) and the map display is not refreshed. For more information and workaround on this bug please see Knowledge Base Article 40396."

so this must be related somehow to the AGX problem

If you are experiencing this problem please try going to the directory below and rename the E3 folder to E3Old:

(Win7, Vista) C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\

or

(WinXP) C:\Document and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp

Then restarted ArcGIS Explorer. We found a problem with the website that was preventing files from being downloaded that was causing this issue that has been resolved.

This solution worked for me also.  After working for a week with Tech Support, they also gave me another workaround that worked pretty well

Open ArcGIS Explorer, click the add basemap button, click 'Manage My Basemaps', browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Explorer\basemaps\Server and add one of the .nmf files. Close and reopen ArcGIS Explorer and try to select the basemap that was just added. For your reference, the numbered .nmf files correspond to the basemaps as follows:

       <basemap name="Bing Maps Aerial" group=" " file="basemap6.nmf"/>
         <basemap name="Bing Maps Hybrid" group=" " file="basemap7.nmf"/>
         <basemap name="Bing Maps Road" group=" " file="basemap8.nmf"/>
         <basemap name="World Imagery" group=" " file="basemap0.nmf"/>
         <basemap name="World Topography" group=" " file="basemap2.nmf"/>
        <basemap name="World Streets" group=" " file="basemap9.nmf"/>
         <basemap name="Boundaries and Places" group=" " file="basemap11.nmf"/>
         <basemap name="World Physical" group=" " file="basemap5.nmf"/>
         <basemap name="OpenStreetMap" group=" " file="basemap10.nmf"/>
         <basemap name="World Terrain" group=" " file="basemap3.nmf"/>

I just downloaded explorer today and installed.  On first run, the default basemap displayed.  i tried switching to Bing aerial and got a black screen where the map should be.  tried restarting program and computer with same result, a blank/black screen where the map should be.  sometimes the desktop or other background application snapshot is frozen in the black frame, but no map.

tried updating .net framework first 3.5 and then 4.5 - no map.  I tried updating msmxl 4.0 sp3 - no map.  Went to this folder (Win7, Vista) C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\: --- and renamed the E3 folder to E3Old:  when I restarted the program, it apparently wrote another "E3" folder because now I have an "E3" and "E3old" folder.  Still have black frame where map should be.  Lastly, tried clicking 'Manage My Basemaps', browsing to C:\Program Files (x86)\Explorer\basemaps\Server and adding one of the .nmf files.... Closing and reopening ArcGIS Explorer and tried to select the basemap that was just added. Still getting the black frame and no map.

any suggestions?  thanks,

Michael
