Is there a way to have a script run (one that sends out an email) when the user clicks 'Update' after making an attribute edit?

Background: I created a simple Report-a-Concern manager web application with Experience builder Developer edition. It has just a table, edit widget and map. The user has the capability to edit all attributes of the selected feature. What I now need to do is create a script or somehow add the functionality to send off an email when the user clicks 'Update' but only if the 'Status' attribute is changed to 'Complete' (from any initial value).

Caveat: I am unable to use Power Automate or Make for various reasons (don't have a premium license and our Enterprise is too old to use the ArcGIS Enterprise triggers). If I were able to, I would have. So much easier.

A coworker has been able to do something similar to this but it involves going deep into the exported folders and editing the JavaScript for the Editor Widget which is honestly a nightmare to try to decipher. If need be, I'll go this route but it'll probably involve days of constant confusion and most likely a few tears. I'm hoping someone has done something like this before and is able to help out.

Thanks!
