Does anyone have any good resources for how to start implementing Google analytics into ExB’s?

My org is hoping to use GA to track really basic data on our ExB’s such as number of views, location of views, etc but I cannot find any tutorials or resources on how to do this. We have a GA account set up through our IT with a property for our maps and I am able to add the Measurement ID to the ExB but when the info finally makes it into GA it makes zero sense to me. I have set up our GA account as suggested by Google and implemented GA within ExB as suggested by ESRI. I have taken the intro tutorial videos as suggested by GA. I do not have any background in development so I need some basic training in how all this works. It’s shocking to me that there seems to be no info online from either Google or ESRI about this. Particularly how do I get the ExBs to show up clearly in the analytics reports? Right now I have the IDs set up in three ExBs (1 in enterprise 11.5 and 2 in AGOL) and when I view the reports in GA it shows multiple pages presumably for the same ExB???

Its been a while since I've dealt with anything GA.   So you let me see if I follow what you have so far:

  • Organization has a Google Analytics Account
  • You have a measure id
    • Is it a single measure id that you use in every app (You may not be able to distinguish except by url which are being accessed)
  • You've added the ID to the EXB (can you describe what you did there?)
  • As far as reports and data, kind of tricky, to give advice without knowing what's showing in your dashboard.

From what I understand from how EXB works, as you click around between the views, buttons, and controls your address bar at the top is going to change.  This gives you an idea of WHERE in the app they were clicking in effect.  So depending on where you are clicking and how much can be clicked on that produces a new URL in the bar, you may see hundreds of these. Obviously grouping might be difficult, .

So imagine you have a page

https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/notARealAppIId/ -> The app loads its base screen

You interact with a control and it takes you to
https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/notARealAppIId/page/page1Name(with some query parameters possibly)
Then you click on various buttons to see different views
https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/notARealAppIId/page/page1Name?views=View1
https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/notARealAppIId/page/page1Name?views=View2
https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/notARealAppIId/page/page1Name?views=View3
You click on a different section and now you are in:
https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/notARealAppIId/page/page2Name?views=View1

There ought to be a way to group requests into a few queries based on
https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/notARealAppIId/  (anything that starts with this is in 1 Ap...
https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/notARealAppIId/page/page2Name Anything (under this is on Page2Name)

https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/notARealAppIId/page/page2Name?views=View1  (Anything under this is in View1) And so on.

You may need to define rules in the dashboard to know how these get grouped.

I've not deployed GA on EXB myself, but I have on other websites without issue.

Does any of that help?

This page might give some more information:

https://www.semrush.com/blog/pageviews/?g_acctid=851-605-1869&g_adid=683861103584&g_adgroupid=168155...

this is a very large and broad subject though, without a little more context of what you setup in EXB, its difficult to consider possible help.
