The Share as Widget should work exactly like web app builder. Web app builder lets you share the view that you are showing. It also gives you the code to embed into a web page.
Absolutely need this Share function to mature into EB with location extent at least, if not also which layers to set to visible. The workaround has been grabbing the coordinates and having the link recipient paste those into the Search box, then many clicks later you are zoomed into maybe the intended extent. Not a great workaround, so this will be a blessing for the way we use maps.
This appears to have been resolved. Kudos to the Esri team. When the EB version of the Share Widget was created, apparently a great deal more power was built in to define parameters in the URL, but those settings need to be turned ON in your EB project-- they are OFF by default.
