We have data on a SQL Server Database. How do we have the data on SQL Server show up in Portal? We have it registered at a data store, but no data shows up in Portal.

Also, is there a way, when a user in ArcGIS Pro shares a layer as a web layer, that it copies the data into the SQL Server? or choose where it is copied?

Hi Jeff,

When you say your database is registered, do you mean in the server manager, or have you gone through the process of adding a data store as an item in Portal itself?

As to your second question, when sharing a web layer, you can copy the contents to your web server by selecting "Copy All Data:"

That wont save it to your SQL Database though, for that you'd need to export the layer to a geodatabase feature class.

Hey.  Registering the SQL Server as a datastore doens't put it into Portal, as such.  The datastore is like a 'check' to make sure that your ArcGIS Server can communicate with a database.  Once you've created the data store registration in Server Manager (or Portal) you need to author a map in pro, and then share that as a Web Layer, and specificlaly as a Map Image Layer.  Once, the Map Image Layer is published, then it will be available to Portal.
