How to change/replace a web adaptor with new Instance Name?

We have a new ArcGIS Enterprise deployment.

A web adaptor named "arcgis" is installed on the server machine, and is federated with portal.

The new challenge is to replace the instance name for the web adaptor with "server" to be used with an internal NLB.

We have 2 things in mind:

  1. Install a new web adaptor named "server", which we already tried but it results in failure to launch server manager page, but works for admin and rest end points.
  2. Un-federate the server and re-install a new web adaptor with required instance name ("server") and re-federate, 😞 which I think is not a good workaround? Although it would bring back the services, but break web maps, and apps.

Any help or suggestion would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Yogesh.

Really weird that you can't get to Server Manager but the other two pages are reachable. Are all three URLs using the same domain/subdomain and web adaptor name?
