How can GIS servers in multiple locations sync up?

For various reasons, my organization needs to set up an additional ArcGIS server at a separate physical location from our current server.   What is the best way to do this, performance-wise?  Do we need another Enterprise license to do this?  The new server needs to have the same data as the old server, so that if the old server goes down, the new one still functions properly.

I would call ESRI support.  This is a big step and should not be handled alone.

for NERC purposes we have servers in our main office and in separate secure location about 50 miles away.

Hi Tristan,

Please review this help topic to get you started,

Configure highly available ArcGIS Enterprise—Portal for ArcGIS (10.7 and 10.7.1) | ArcGIS Enterprise

> What is the best way to do this, performance-wise?

This will vary, depending on the type of ArcGIS Enterprise deployment you have. E.g. single machine vs. multi machine deployment.

> Do we need another Enterprise license to do this?

This will depend on whether you want an active-passive or active-active high availability deployment. I would ask your esri account manager/Distributor.

Hope this helps,
