Geocoding using General Single Field style slow in suggestions

Hi,

I build a geolocator (in General Single Field style) using ArcGIS 10.4.1, with suggestions enabled. I noticed that if I use a query string that has more than 10 similar records in the geolocator, the suggestions can take 1 minutes before the results is returned. But when I increase the maxSuggestions to a larger number (> 21 in my case), the suggestions returns almost instantly.

Separately, I build another geolocator (in General Gazetteer style) using the same data, the suggestions returns almost instantly, regardless what maxSuggestions value used.

Can anyone explain if this is a bug, or am I using it incorrectly?

Thanks.

The suggestion behavior with a geocode service based on the General - SingleField locator style is a bug and the suggested workaround is to use the Gazetteer style. There is also a memory leak issue with the SingleField locator style when used as a service, which is another reason to use the Gazetteer style.
