Our organization will be upgrading from Enterprise 10.9.1 to 11.0. I'm assuming our internal and external web maps will be unavailable during the upgrade and we want to know: What will our public users experience when trying to access our web maps while we are upgrading Enterprise? Is there a specific error message they will see? Or will the map simply be blank and unresponsive?

Thanks for all the great community posts assisting with the Enterprise upgrade. Hopefully I'm not duplicating previously posted information

They're likely to see different errors at different times.  Personally, I turn the web server or web gateway off so they just get a not found type error.  It depends on the technology stack above it.  This approach keeps it clean, and it's not usable/stable during an upgrade.  You just need to declare an outage until everything is upgraded.

BTW, you mention 11.0.  Have you seen the lifecycle information?  https://support.esri.com/en-us/products/arcgis-enterprise/life-cycle#:~:text=term%20support%20releas...

At this late stage of it's general availability I'd be targetting 11.1.  There will be not patches after Jan 24.

Couldn't agree more on the v11.1 and with general process suggested.

I recently did this upgrade for an organization that has a pretty significant public facing presence. The easiest path, and best, would be to shut down the web adaptors to have a complete outage vs. providing an inconsistent experience.

Hi there, we have a multi server deployment and I'll be following the steps in the link below.  How do you turn off the web adaptors? Do you mean uninstall them or turn off IIS on the web tier server?

Really depends on the situation. Generally speaking, I turn off the web adaptors when I need bring everything back up without inbound traffic, ie. complete system restart (multi-server configuration), maintenance nights, etc.
