I am working with ArcGIS Server 10.7.1 where I add SDE Database connections to the Data Store in ArcGIS Server (AGS) Manager so data is referenced from SDE and not copied to the server. I was required to upgrade SDE passwords which required that the Data Store database connections be deleted and re-added with the stronger password. This operation worked fine with a standalone ArcGIS Server setup.
I have since incorporated Portal into the enterprise environment and now I am unable to add SDE Database connections to the Data Store in AGS Manager. With some help I was able to add SDE Database connections to the Data Store in Portal, but these Data Store connections although visible in AGS Manager are no longer able to be edited.
Are there any other limitations to creating Data Store connections in Portal as opposed to with AGS Manager?
I don't want to change my workflow if it causes downstream problems.
