Im looking for a way to do a "search and replace" on all the entries within a specific attribute column.  For example, In the column "County" some polygons are labeled with the county name followed by Cnty, and others are followed by County (Butler Cnty vs. Butler County).  I want a way to search for all the instances of Cnty and replace them with County.  In the past I have done this in Excell, and just re-saved the .dbf, but Excell '07 wont save as a dbf anymore so Im looking for a way to do this in ArcGIS 9.3.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks

Open the attribute table and highlight the column in question, then click on the "Options" button at the bottom of the attribute table window. You'll find the option to search or search-and-replace there. I think you have to be in an editing session, but I'm not sure about that.

Hope this helps.
