Hi Esri Community,

Do we need to use the Service Account user to install patches that was used to install ArcGIS Enterprise? Or can we use another user and run as Administrator?

My organization is at ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9.1, but looking to install patches. We used a Service Account to install and run Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server and Web Adaptors.

Unfortunately, we cannot sign into the Portal for ArcGIS machines with the Service Account due to IT policies. Has anybody done this before? Unfortuantely, we don't have a development environment.

No... the service account is just what runs ArcGIS Enterprise. Any other account with the necessary privileges should be able to apply the patch. You'll want to make sure it has admin rights and access to the same directories as the service account.

However this will likely be a higher tier of privilege than the ArcGIS Server Account i.e. an administrator account that has permissions to run installation. So you'll likely need to work with IT to get access or be in line with their policies.
