Creating equally spaced points

I need to insert mile markers on a river system but I want them to be equally spaced and I would like to use those markers as reference points for other features.
Any ideas?

It might be more work than what you want to put into it, but you might consider looking into linear referencing. This page discusses some common applications of linear referencing and addresses water resources at the bottom.

I used Editor Divide tool which worked very well! Perfect for creating points at equal lengths along a line.
