I want to assign A User or A Group to a Web App with editing feature. I want this User / Group to have certain access to content.

How do I manage this ?

I have difficulties in understanding the relation between User Type and User Role. Does access to Web App with editing feature depend on the Role or User Type ?

Thanks

I am using Geoportal 11.0

User Type = what the licence allows for

User Role = what the user can actually do, within the user type

Group = what the group users can access

To provide access you should:

  • Provide user a User Type that allows editing e.g. Contributor or above
  • Assign a User Role with editing privileges (this may be custom, but can't be higher privileges than user type)
  • Create a group and add user to it
  • Create a map, add layers with editing enabled, create an app, and share it to the group

User will then have a licence, privileges and access to the content.

Some care is required as you should use the groups to control access, not the role, i.e. don't give a Viewer access to editable content, in case you eventually change their role and give them undesired editing access to content.
