So in my organization we created a lot of items and often shared them within organization. But I didn't get any notifications when other members replied to my comment on the Portal item page, or when they commented on the item that I created.
It appeared that I only get notification if I applied to join a group and get approved, and serveral other scenarios. I think notification should also be used for user interactions.
