Recently I experienced problems overwriting a Taxlot API rest service. I kept getting the error: unable to retrieve information for existing item when trying to overwrite map service. However, while the ESRI support person was looking into possible reasons that this particular layer was not getting published (others worked fine) I, using ArcGIS Pro, switched to AGOL from our Portal and tried to overwrite the ArcGIS Online hosted taxlot layer. The error that I got then was that I could not proceed because there was a join on the layer. Of course, overwriting the service in Portal worked fine after removing the join.
It would be nice if the error message when overwriting a service in portal would also say that there was a join and thus can’t proceed rather than the generic message that was given. Just a suggestion. Thanks
