Feature Layer Views for hosted feature layers are extremely useful because they allow multiple tailored views of the same source data without duplicating the data or publishing additional services.
It would be very valuable to have the same capability for non-hosted feature layers.
Today, when organizations need different views of the same non-hosted data, the usual workaround is to publish multiple copies of the same map service/feature service ech with the desired filtering (work arounds described here). While this can meet the immediate need, it creates unnecessary administrative overhead and makes long-term maintenance harder.
Supporting view layers for non-hosted feature layers would make it possible to expose the same authoritative source through multiple controlled views, just as we can already do with hosted feature layer views.
