After installing Desktop 10.5 prerelease, I could not install Desktop 10.5 final release

I installed Desktop 10.5 prerelease which worked fine.  When 10.5 final release became available I tried installing it and received error message that "another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue..."  I then uninstalled 10.5 prerelease and installed the new 10.5 final release but could not figure out how to authorize it.

You need to do a clean uninstall of ArcGIS 10.5 pre-release before installing ArcGIS 10.5 final (including dirty folders and registry files). After uninstalling ArcGIS Desktop using uninstall utility/control panel, follow these steps.

Rename or delete following folders:

C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS

 C:\Program Files (x86)\Esri

 C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ArcGIS

 C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Esri

 C:\Program Files\ArcGIS

 C:\Program Files\Esri

 C:\Program Files\Common Files\ArcGIS

 C:\Program Files\Common Files\Esri

 C:\Program Data\Esri

 C:\Program Data\ArcGIS

 C:\Program Data\FLEXnet

 C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\ESRI

 C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\ArcGIS

 C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\ESRI

 C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\ArcGIS

 C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ArcGIS

 C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Esri

Go to regedit (RUN > REGEDIT) and rename/delete the following (if they exist):

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ESRI

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ESRI

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Flex LM License Manager

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\<Delete Any Folder that contains ArcGIS or Esri>

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\ArcGIS Server

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\<Delete Any Folder that contains ArcGIS or Esri within>

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\FLEXnet Licensing Service

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\<Delete Any Folder that contains ArcGIS or Esri within>

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Assemblies\<Delete Any Folder that contains ArcGIS or Esri within>

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\<Delete and Folder that contains ArcGIS or Esri within>

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Assemblies\Global\<Delete all Keys beginning with ESRI or ArcGIS>

Then REBOOT.

Hey Jayanta, what is your source for these "ground zero" instructions?

Install ArcGIS Server on one machine—Installation Guides (10.5) | ArcGIS Enterprise

Obtaining an authorization file—Installation Guides (10.5) | ArcGIS Enterprise

You will need to create a Provisioning file using your myesri account for 10.5 Final.  The pre-release one will not work.  It's also called "ArcGIS Enterprise" now, but if you select the ArcGIS Server in the Product type, it will tell you that.

If you look in the Authorizations, you might see something like this when looking for the later version (use the filter)

And yes, you did need to uninstall pre-release before installing the final (that was mentioned somewhere in the pre-release docs).

I can't create a Provisioning file, presumably, because I have no available Licenses according to my Authorization list.
Probably that is why the Software Authorization Wizard failed after my attempt to install 10.5 final.  Somehow I need to have ESRI acknowledge that I used licenses to install 10.5 prerelease for single use and, apparently, need new licenses to install 10.5 final.  Of course, all this may be unnecessary if there are no significant changes from prerelease to final release.

attached is a copy of my authorization report. It's not clear how to

obtain authorizations to replace 10.5 prerelease with 10.5 final.

Term License group... this wouldn't be an educational institution would it?

If so, you should really contact your internal manager of your licenses....

if not...

never mind

No, my question is not related to an educational institution. I have a

single-use license for ArcGIS Desktop for personal, non-commercial use. I

would like to upgrade my software from 10.5 prerelease to 10.5 final. I

am told the first step is to obtain a Provisioning file which I can't seem

to do, apparently, because I have already used my 10.5 licenses.

Rebecca, I think he wants a Desktop, not an Enterprise, license.

John, at least my single-use codes are the same for 10.1 - 10.5 and required no update.

I wonder which machine your license was farmed out to - you should run a Deauthorize in ArcGIS Administrator for that machine.

If your provision got locked up somehow, this is issue for Esri tech support.

Yes, I am trying to update a single use installation of ArcGIS on my

personal laptop, the same laptop that I've been running ArcGIS on for

several years. I'll contact ESRI tech support - I thought all you guys who

were responding to my query were, somehow, connected to ESRI tech support.

Or,maybe, since the prerelease version is working just fine for me, I'll

wait until I need to renew my license in April. Thanks for all your

suggestions.
