question from a customer:

what is required to take full advantage of data reviewer (attribute rules) in Pro?

Based on these articles...

Evaluate attribute rules—ArcGIS Pro | Documentation

Share datasets with attribute rules—ArcGIS Pro | Documentation

Can you confirm that we are interpreting this correctly?

  • Immediate evaluation (immediate calculation rules and constraint rules) will work in ArcGIS Pro with traditional and branch versioning.
  • Deferred evaluation (batch calculation rules and validation rules) must be run from a feature service with the validation capability when using an enterprise geodatabase (which we are).
  • To publish a feature service with validation capability, the feature class must use branch versioning and the ArcGIS Server must have a Data Reviewer license.

So to sum it up, in order to fully utilize attribute rules we have to use branch versioning and have a Data Reviewer for Server license. Is that correct?

Thanks for any assistance!

@LauraPhoebusThis is a great question!

Regarding licensing, the Methods to implement automated review topic is getting an update in the next release to address licensing requirements for Reviewer-based validation attribute rules.

Here is a preview of this update:

Consider the following licensing requirements when implementing Reviewer-based attribute rule workflows:

  • A Data Reviewer license for ArcGIS Pro and an ArcGIS Pro Standard or Advanced license are both required to create or modify a Reviewer-based attribute rule.
  • A Data Reviewer license for ArcGIS Pro and an ArcGIS Pro Standard or Advanced license are both required to evaluate a Reviewer-based validation attribute rule in a file or mobile geodatabase.
  • A Data Reviewer license for Enterprise and an ArcGIS Server Standard or Advanced license are both required to evaluate a Reviewer-based validation attribute rule in a branch versioned enterprise geodatabase.

Hope this update provides clarity around the licensing requirements.
