Share a Specific View

Hello!

Does anyone know if there is a way in ArcGIS Dashboards for users to be able to zoom in/out and share that specific view?

For example, in Google Maps, I can zoom into a specific view, and that URL links to the specific view -

In this Concept3D version, they can share the map view, versus just the app

I suspect there is a way to do it, but I'm just not looking in the right spot.

  • I want to reiterate - that this needs to be user specific (ie. doesn't effect the whole app. just let the users zoom into a spot > share that view > without impacting anyone else in the org).

If there isn't a way to do this, I'll probably float it on the Ideas board. But I suspect it might just be me missing it in the settings.

Thank you!

I’ve done this in Experience Builder before, but I haven’t tested the same behavior in Dashboards—maybe it works similarly.

Here are the two links for reference:

vs

In the second link, I want it to zoom directly to “Asbury Park.” The issue is that while the first link stays current (new logo, updates, etc.), the second one is a static, older view of the app and doesn’t reliably reflect current changes.

This made me revisit the workflow—there may be a better option. One approach is using a List widget so clicking a park automatically zooms to it in the live app, and then sharing from that state so the selection persists.

Another option is enabling URL data selection parameters. That way, when a feature is selected and zoomed to in the live map, the copied URL can reproduce that same selection and view.

so now it's https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/d820200c69334f6892f06147a4689eb7 vs https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/d820200c69334f6892f06147a4689eb7#data_s=id%3AdataSource_2-1...

Update: I called support because I'm not seeing a way to zoom to from the map and table widgets in Dashboards. They are working through this on their end.

@Laura thank you for the info! I was playing around with Experience Builder as well, and was struggling a bit (mostly user error on my part, I'm new to Experience Builder and still learning things). I'll be reconstructing the dashboard in Experience Builder eventually, but it won't be for another 6 months, most likely.

If you find anything out, let me know! For some reason, I thought there might have been a widget/tool in dashboards that did this, it was just a matter of adding it, but it's possible my brain is making that up and I'm remembering something completely different.

I was hoping to replicate this in Dashboards the same way I did in EXB. Support was able to reproduce my issue: the zoom-to and pan capabilities that should work in 11.2 and 12.0 are not functioning as expected. They are logging a bug, since the documentation states that you should be able to zoom to a location from a table widget, but currently you can’t. I was hoping to click on the map, have it zoom to my point, and copy the URL—something I was able to do in EXB. Going to try to log an enhancement/bug for that as well.

The zoom-to action currently works within the list widget; however, even when a specific point is selected and zoomed to, the URL does not update. As a result, copying and pasting the URL will not preserve the zoomed-in view.

Thank you for the update! I was thinking on the same lines, but was unsure if this was expected or if this was a bug.

Very long story short - we ended our contract with Concept3D (the previous platform we used for our online interactive campus map)  and are temporarily using a dashboard (it was a rather last minute switch, so this is a dashboard I literally tossed together in an hour to test data sharing to ArcGIS Online from Pro that I cleaned up to be a little more reader friendly). I'm planning on creating something better in EXB this summer, but for the time being the dashboard does what it needs to do.

I was hoping to use the list widget, but I think I might just have to build a final version in EXB and just work with what we've got now. I might just build a very small condensed map app for the departments that want to focus on specific spots as a workaround. If they fix the bug sooner, I'll try some experiments with the table widget and switch that over it if sharing specific views work.

Anywho - thank you again for the update!
