Override category selector alphanumeric list

Good day,
My category list is sorting automatically in numeric order and it's not suitable for me I would like it to display as 1, 2, 3 but now it is displaying all the 1's first and listing 1, 10, 11, 12 etc. How can I override this or is it not possible at this stage?
