ArcGIS Dashboards Selector Zoom Limitation

I’m running into a limitation in ArcGIS Dashboards that seems like a pretty common dashboard workflow. It seems to be an issue in the Enterprise Portal I'm working in running 11.5.0 (Build 56755) as well as ArcGIS Online.

Currently, sidebar category selectors can only filter the map and widgets. There does not appear to be any way for a selector to:

  • zoom to filtered features
  • pan to filtered features
  • update the map extent automatically

Selecting an option correctly filters the map, but the map stays at the same extent. Users still have to manually find the filtered feature

I’ve checked selector actions, map actions, and dashboard settings, but the only native action available is Filter.

At this point the only real solution seems to be rebuilding the app in ArcGIS Experience Builder.

Has anyone found a cleaner workaround or heard whether Esri plans to support zoom/pan actions directly from selectors?

It looks like this has been brought up before here:

One way around it that may work is if you can use a 'list' as well. The Selector can filter the options in the list, and then you can click on a list item and it will zoom to the feature on the map. For example, I have polygons showing project areas and a selector to filter those by a company name. The list shows the polygons/projects associated with the company and then you can click on the project name in the list to zoom to project of interest.
