Hi - The initial extent of my AGOL dashboard map is zoomed out farther than the initial extent of the source web map. I have confirmed that all layers in the web map are the same projection and I have also recalculated the extent of each of the layers.
Any ideas about what could be causing this issue? I've attached screenshots of the initial map extents of the dashboard and the web map. I generated the web map from ArcGIS Pro and the extent of the map when published was the same as the web map. I also tried editing the extent of the dashboard in the settings but that had no effect either.
It would be really nice if there was a option in the dashboard map settings to "use current map extent as initial extent".
Thanks
Pete

Hi @PeteVitt
Thanks for your question. I've given this a quick test and from what I can tell, my dashboard is mirroring the extent that I have set up in my web map. There is definitely a couple quirks with setting the extent though so it may be that we need to play around with the settings a bit.
To confirm, could you go onto your web map, zoom into another country (just somewhere obviously different so we can tell if the dashboard is mirroring it) and then save your web map. Refresh and then click the home button on your web map to check the extent has changed. Then go into your dashboard and see if this has any effect with the initial extent. If not - could you click the "home" button on your dashboard map (you might need to enable it) and let me know where it zooms to instead.
Thanks!
Issy

Thanks Issy - following your instructions I was able to change the initial extent of the dashboard to what I needed. I had to zoom in farther in the web map to get the correct extent in the dashboard -- see attachments. It would be nice if the dashboard map extent could be set independently of the web map. It seems now that if the saved webmap extent changes, the dashboard map extent changes also.

Hi @PeteVitt
I'm glad that worked for you. I definitely understand the desire to be able to set the map extent in the dashboard and we do actually have an open enhancement request logged for this that is being considered. You can find the associated Esri Community ideas post here: Define the default map extent of a web map in Dash... - Esri Community. I'd recommend upvoting that idea and it should be updated if there are any developments on the enhancement.
Let me know if you have any other questions,
Issy
