Apologies in advance for landing this in the wrong board. If a moderator could move it to the Wish List (general) board, this might be a more appropriate thread there.

Maybe this has been addressed in the past and I just couldn't find it but, for many years, AutoCAD has had a very helpful function called Layer States. The function allows a user to save, by name, a state of layers that have been configured as such that they isolate helpful aspects of a map containing many layers. Layer States allowed a user to turn on or off any number of combinations of layers and save them to a named state. Grouping layers using ArcGIS desktop solutions, like ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro, does this to an effect, however, in order to sometimes accomplish this, multiple instances of layers will exist in the same map. This denigrates map performance. Has anything been discussed previously about a similar possibility? Planners, engineers, and environmental sectors often have multiple layer states thematically and this would be a great tool to add.
