Allowing for a widget focusing on the accessibility to the dashboard for those with disabilities such as being colour blind or having difficulty with sight or even reading would be of great assistance towards better understanding the information being conveyed.

If the widget were to include options such as

  • text size so that the text can have a range of being displayed from either small to large or very large,
  • text alignment so that the text can be spaced out in a range that will be easier to read,
  • level of contrast so that the dashboard can be displayed using different colour palettes
  • including highlighting any key components of the dashboard
  • and even changing the font to make it more fun to view.

If these options were made available and had specific settings with each option only allowing for a set number of choices such as there only being 2-3 other fonts that can be chosen in the accessibility widget made, I think that this would be helpful with maintaining the dashboard.

Moreover, allowing for the accessibility widget to be placed as either a symbol or selection option within the header for the dashboard could be helpful with locating the menu/widget. If the widget is used as a striking symbol or button that can be moved around within the dashboard by any viewers, I think that this would also help with the placement. If used as a symbol/button then the widget could even appear as a pop up menu.

I hope that this will encourage a more user-friendly and accessible viewing for all when using dashboards.

Thank you.

An example for this widget would be something like this:

Thanks @simonzli

I fully support with the post—this is a very important and timely suggestion.

We have also observed that several dashboards developed using other software platforms are already incorporating accessibility widgets with features such as adjustable text size, contrast settings, and simplified font options. These enhancements have proven to be highly effective in improving usability, particularly for users with visual impairments or reading difficulties.

Pushing for this within the ESRI would be a strong step toward more inclusive and user-friendly dashboards for all users.

Thank you for raising this—it’s definitely worth advocating for.
