Download option gone in Collector

I have a map that I've used with disconnected editing in the past. Today I added a polygon layer to the web map. Devices that have not downloaded the map for disconnected editing, see the new polygon layer.

On the devices that had the layer downloaded, I tried syncing, but the new layer didn't show up. I tried deleting the "features only" to try and re-download, and then the download option was no longer there. Next I tried deleting the saved basemap, still no download button. What gives?

Turns out I had not enabled sync on the new layer. Should I delete this question or leave it around for others?

I'm sure you won't be the only person to get caught out by this.

Might save someone else a few hours of hair pulling

PS What would be great to see 'featured' here is some kind of FAQ, especially for people just starting out.
