Hello,

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to download comments from a shared CityEngine Webviewer application to a .txt file or something similar?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Mike

there is no out-of-the-box way to do this.

Can you specify the exact use case for which you would use this? How often, on how many items, ...

If you're into programming, one option could be to use the JS API to grab comments from a portal item, i.e. writing a small javascript application to grab the comments.

Portal | API Reference | ArcGIS API for JavaScript

PortalComment | API Reference | ArcGIS API for JavaScript

Hi Andreas,

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, I'm not what would be described as 'into programming'......Yet !  Thanks for the suggestion.

In reply to your question, I wanted to download the comments from a Webscene in the event that I would need to archive them.  For example, if I've created something for a public meeting for a specific project and I would need to archive the feedback and perhaps quantify the results (ie, number of respondents, repeat respondents, topics of comments etc).  In a public meeting/public feedback scenario, one might expect any number of comments, depending on how contentious the issue.

Hi Mike

in case you don't need to do that very often, and it can be a manual process, I recommend to simply copy-paste the comments from the item page, and paste them into a text file for archiving.

Or, with a bit of Excel tricks, you might even be able to paste them into a spreadsheet, and do some quantification.

for example from here:

text pasted into notepad:
