Hi !

I just got some feedback from a developer regarding holes and importing them

( Not 100% all of the above was stated correctly by me)

To clarify: holes are supported with following input formats:
??? CityEngine 2013.1: gdb
??? CityEngine 2014.0: gdb, shp
So if you import footprints with holes into CityEngine 2013.1 we recommend to use the gdb format.

It's the only reason we do not use CE in my company. Unfortunately, we had to write Python and Max scripts to export from ArcGIS to 3dsmax. I tested each CE release from 2008 version but every time this problem remains unsolved.

Hi,

in CE 2013, this should work.

Ana, can you post a shape file or GDB with that specific footprint ?

Let me know ..

I am experiencing the same problem.

Usually i import DXF files and closed polylines are converted to CE shapes. What usualy happens with the holes is that CE reads it as a second shape. What kind of objects should i export from AutoCAD to preserve the holes?

In VecrorWorks, the same thing hapens both when exporting to DXF or to ShapeFiles, the object with a hole is being impoted as two seperate shapes.

Any ideas?

Until CE2012, CityEngine could not interpret holes, thus it created a second shape, with inverted normals.

In 2013, it is supported for shapeFiles and GDB. I'm not sure if it's also working with dxf files.

Alex, can you provide a dxf file with a polygon with a hole ?
