I looked through the forum first but couldn't find an answer to this question.

Is it possible to drop an image such as a jpg or nitf onto a Silverlight ArcGIS map and then georectify it?

Not sure what you mean by 'georectify'.
The closest sample is this one : http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/silverlight/samples/start.htm#MediaLayer

but the georectification is relatively basic (scale, rotation, placement).

That is exactly what I'm talking about.  What formats of images videos can this be done with?  Where can I find the directions for doing this?

See this sample as well which helps you generate the xaml needed for placing the image/video/xaml/whatever:

The approach works with any image or video that Silverlight supports.
