Reset feature attachment IDs?

I have a script that adds attachments to a feature layer. Occasionally, I need to delete the existing attachments and add new ones. When I do so, the attachment ID for the feature does not reset to 1, it continues the sequence even though there are no longer any attachments. Is there any way to force a reset?

Since they're indexed, I don't think there's a way to do this without a significant amount of work that will result in your data going offline.

I had to overwrite the service to restart the sequence at 1. Thankfully, in this particular case I was fine with deleting all the attachments, but it's unfortunate there isn't a less intrusive way to accomplish this.
