Switching between mercator/polar projections

Hello,

I posted a few days ago regarding displaying maps in polar (vs mercator) and how to go about it. I finally got that working by setting the map's wkid to a polar projection and setting my layer to be dynamic. It's really slow but it works.

Now I'm struggling with how to switch between mercator and polar projections within the same application. I am envisioning a toggle switch - similar to the Mapswitcherwidget - that will allow users to switch between polar and mercator on a whim. Is this possible? I've read several places that ESRI does not support changing projections, but I was wondering if any of you have tried it and successfully gotten the projections to switch.

I'm also looking to see if creating my own base maps in polar would allow switching. For example, if I had two maps in mercator and two maps in polar, and all the layers were of type "tiled", could the map change its projection on-the-fly to suit these layers?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

One way would be to create two flex apps with the same data, just one in polar and one in mercator.

Then you could use Robert's Link widget to switch between the two maps.

It would appear as if the map just switched to the other cooredinate system.  Of course, it would lose the current zoom/extent and open the new map to the defaults.
