have no idea what happened.  My scroll wheel does not work for zooming anymore in firefox, chrome or opera...but it does still work in IE.

And in Flash Player 4 the scroll wheel still works.

finally found the culprit...I think.

Right click your project --> properties --> flex compiler --> and make sure that 'Enable integration with browser navigation' is checked on.

For some reason it still worked in IE when this was turned off but not in any other browsers I tested - FF, chrome, opera, flock.
