Grouping Operational Layers

Hello,

I would like to be able to group operational layers (probably in ISO categories) in such a way that you could bring up a group and choose which layers from that category you would like to see, go to the next category and so on. I don't see how to do this using Flexviewer. The layers list seems to work with only one list of layers - all those within in the operational layers tags. I suppose I  could create a layers list widget for each ISO category (essentially creating a clone of the existing layers list widget but calling it something different) but it would be nice to be able to do this in the config file. Is it possible?

Investigating this subject has thrown some another  questions - In a layers list widget I see sub layers. Are these sublayers 'queryable' in a cached layer or do they need to be dynamic layers. I was under the impression a fused service is not 'queryable'.

In mxd terms what is the format of a FLEX layer, sub layer relationship -  is it a group with layers in it?

Finally, what is a feature layer in FLEX?

Thanks for any enlightenment.

Looking to do the same in the 2.3 version of the viewer... was hoping there would be a <LayerGroup> or <LayerSubGroup> tag in the config file like the <WidgetGroup> tag but seemingly no such luck. any thoughts on adding in this functionality or a work around?

Thanks for your time.

I wanted to note that I need to group cached, dynamic, and image services by a given theme. This should not make a difference in terms of the grouping in the widget, just wanted to clarify that i am looking for a solution other than grouping via map service.

thanks again

Guys,

Several people have asked for this and it is just not feasible at this time to accomplish this.

Dear all, dear Robert,

Any news on this issue ? Workaround or coming developments ?

Robert, is there a possibility to include  such improvment in your excellent TOC/Legend widget ?
By the way, many thanks for your wonderful widgets !

I'm also interested in grouping layers after seeing this application:

Let's hope ESRI Australia will post the code.

Wow, that is a nice Flex App. Wish they could post the code for it.

I sent a mail to ESRI Australia last Monday to ask for it.
I'll post the reply (if I get one!).

All,

I am not sure what I am missing here... What is it that is so impressive about this app? Just curious...

Maybe it's not so impressive but it corresponds to one of my need which is to group layers by thema, even if they are not grouped in webservice.
I have many sources of datas (that I'm not in charge to manage). We need to intregrate it in a specific application and we want to group it by thema.
For sure, it would be better to do it within the TOC but this apps gives a workaround.

Thanks in avance for your advice and, by the way, thank for your widgets !!!
