North Arrows in Arc Scene

I have been using ArcScene for a few months now, and am surprised to see that there is no North arrow option...

Indeed, I cannot find a way to add a North Arrow to any scenes. Am I missing something? Seems very very strange indeed. You would think that GIS software would include a North Arrow nad scale bar option at a minimum.

I must be missing something!

I have made a manual north arrow, using ArcMAp and a shapefile for another project, but it seems like this is not the way to go (it is very time consuming).

Any ideas from users. Any input from ESRI?

Any comments/suggestions/ideas are appreciated.

Marishka.

Greetings,

You can go the the View menu > View Settings and check the box for 'Directional Arrow'. The arrow shows you the x, y, and z axis in the scene and has an indicator for North. See screenshot. This is in 10.1.

As for scale, it varies when in a perspective view like ArcScene. A scale bar would only represent one location in the scene, hence no scale bars.

What do I do if the view settings option doesn't work in ArcScene?

Thanks for the answer. Nice improvement. Unfortunately I have 9.3.

Hi there,

Is it possible to change the layout (color) on the arrows?
