I am trying to create a surface dem to pull elevation data from in GeoRAS. I was given a .tin file and .dtm file created in microstation. How do i convert the .tin file or .dtm file from microstation into a surface file that arcmap will recognize.

I have tried to export the .tin file to a .xml file in microstation and use the 3d analyst LandXML to Tin function to create the surface but it does not appear to be working. The ribbon is scrolling at the bottom of the arccatalog window like it appears to be creating a tin but a file has not been created. It has been supposedly trying to create the tin since yesterday afternoon.

The tin file I am working with is approximately 40mb and the dtm file is approximately 47mb.

Help!

Hi,

The xml file will need to be triangulated surface for the LandXML to Tin tool to recognize it.  In the tool dialog box, you would see a list of the Tins available for import.  I'm not familar with Microstation enough to give you any suggestions on converting the .tin file to a LandXML file.  You may want to provide more information about how you created the xml file in Microstation and what version of LandXML it is.  Screenshots might help other forum goers provide you with more suggestions on that process.

Best wishes.
