Hello All, I'm trying to create a TIN from a mulipoint feature class.  I remember in 9.3 you could limit the points by distance between them.  I cannot find that option anywhere using 10.  Can someone tell me how to do this?

Thanks

Hello William,

This can be done with the Delineate TIN Data Area tool in the ArcToolbox > 3D Analyst Tools > TIN Management toolset.

The "Delineate TIN Data Area" removes triangles that are larger than "Maximum Length Edge".  What I want to do is lower the "resolution" of the TIN.  For example, I have point data with a distance between them of 6 inches.  My system can't handle all of those points.  So I want to create a TIN that has a 12 inch "resolution", only using half of the points.  If I remember correctly in 9.3 there was a setting that you could change this when creating a TIN through ArcMap.  I cannot find anything like this in 10.0.

I have found the "Decimate TIN" tool.  This takes an input TIN and lowers the "resolution" by the Z Tolerance or by Count.  This would help if I had a TIN created already that had all of my points in it.  However, my problem is that I have too more data points than a single TIN can hold.  I haven't found a tool yet that lets me combine two TINS.  Anyone know of such a tool?  In the mean time I will keep searching.

Thanks

Will

The only thing I have found is to create a terrain and then export a TIN from that.  It is a pain not to have the option when creating a TIN, but it worked for me.
