H all

I have an issue with 3D symbols like 3D buildings and trees. I have a point shapefile and I want to replace points with a 3D symbol for example 3D buildings. When I did this in ArcGlobe, all of my symbols turn out to be 2D. They all look flatten images on the surface. If I do this with ArcScene, the 3D symbols look perfect fron any directions that I rotate. Does anybody have any idea what I'm doing wrong in ArcGlove. Thanks in advance.

Hi Do Kim,

I think you just accepted the defaults when adding your data to ArcGlobe, which means your point layer is being rasterized instead of displaying as 3d vectors.  Remove the layer and add it again, but choose, "Display features as 3D vectors".  See screenshot.

Hi Eric -

I am seeing this very same problem in a 3D project I just created in ArcGlobe 10...even though I added it as a 3D vector layer (not raster).  Upon adding this layer it showed a 3D balloon as the symbol, but only shows a flat rectangle (like a draped raster) in the data frame.  To boot after I added this layer and saved the project, now when I go to open my project it crashes immediately.  I can't even get back into the project now to remove the 3D vector.

Hi Marie,

In the attached screenshot I placed the same 2d point layer into the TOC twice, once as draped and once as 3d vectors. Everything appears to be working normal for me.  I am using 10.0 sp2.

What kind of data are you working with? Are you on SP2? What happens if you start a blank globe document and add the data?

Is this the same Marie I met in DC a month or so ago?  I can just call you if it is...

Cheers,
Eric
