I am trying to learn Creating 3D Data Using ArcGIS tutorial created by ESRI. I am having trouble with the Terrain part. I cannot seem to create a Terrain by following the tutorial instructions of R clicking on the dataset -> New and "Terrain" is greyed out. I then created a new dataset & tried to Copy/Paste the feature class into the new dataset, I got an error telling me the fc spatial reference does not match. Anyone else have trouble with the tutorial?
Do you have the required extensions toggled on ? (Customize, Extensions... check there)
As for the second part, it sounds like you are using files that are in a different projection/coordinate system. Is there a requirement for projected data?
Thank you for your response, Dan. Yes, I do have the extension turned on. I am following ESRI's tutorial, with their data, so it should work. We use 10.4, according to the ESRI specs, this tutorial should work for this version. ??? I guess I will delete the dl'ed tutorial files, reload and try again. This is the 3rd time.
I just tested this, and it worked. The only way I could get the Terrain option to be grayed out when right-clicking on the topography feature dataset was by unchecking the 3D Analyst extension.
