The November 2020 solution release sees the first integration of deep learning into the 3D basemaps solution. Leveraging a new tree classification deep learning model on the Living Atlas, it is now possible to classify trees in lidar point clouds in ArcGIS Pro.

This solution release also adds a new density based cluster approach to tree extraction which significantly improves the tree extraction compared to a raster based approach.

Just keep in mind that density based clustering on large amount of points is much more resource intensive than the existing raster based approach so we recommend using the latter first to get a generic tree coverage and use the density based cluster approach only for areas where you need accurate tree extraction.

For more information, see the 3D basemap solution documentation.

Hi, the link is changed but Geonet is not updating.

For now, you can use: https://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=58d77b24469d4f30b5f68973deb65599

Thanks.

I am attempting to use the deep learning to classify power lines in a lidar point cloud in the 3D basemap solution.

I have downloaded and ran the deep learning libraries installer but am unclear where the deep learning model files are located to actually use them in the solution.

I have searched my drive for any .dlpk and .emd files but nothing comes up.

have navigated to C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Pro\bin\Python\envs\arcgispro-py3 and searched there as well but I can't find anything.

Where can I find the model definition files or deep learning packages that were installed?

Hi @Gert_van_Maren , i've tried to classify power lines with deep learning but it's not working well i suppose is beacuse the highg density of trees and vegetation, actually, i can't classify electric poles correctly neither. Any thoughs?

Hi,

It could be that the model is not trained particularly well for your point cloud data and therefore giving incorrect results. You would need to improve the input training model using your own data in that case.
