AS GIS becomes more and more part of the enterprise information model, GIS applications are more and more integrated in existing IT applications. Particularly in governmental and utility environments, geographical data is a structural part of the information in a project/business process. SharePoint is a typical tool in which all sorts of project information is managed. We present an ESRI, ArcGIS server based component, that is fully integrated to manage both spatial and non-spatial information. In this presentation will be focused on the technical architecture to integrate business workflows that requires both SharePoint and GIS functionality. The flow has been completely rebuilt in SharePoint with custom GIS interfaces which can be opened from within the SharePoint forms. Hereby foreseeing a seamless integration for the day-to-day user of the platform. Furthermore, the SharePoint (textual) search tool has been upgraded with an overview map; and complemented with a separate geographical search tool to raise the search efficiency to a completely new level. For the senior GIS managers, a more advanced GIS web application (a “mini ESRI ArcMap”) has been built that opens within the SharePoint environment to perform more advanced tasks. Next to the SharePoint technology, AngularJS is used in the front-end, with ArcGIS servers and a SQL Spatial Server (without ESRI SDE) in the back-end. The ESRI Rest API is used for querying, whereas ArcObjects SDK is used for printing and converting shape files to WKT. Additionally, the OGC standards are strictly followed to make sure any object from external WMS/WFS services can be identified and layer’s styling can be changed using dynamic SLD generation.

SharePoint is a typical tool in which all sorts of project information is managed. We present an ESRI, ArcGIS server based component, that is fully integrated to manage both spatial and non-spatial information. An overview of the logical architecture will be presented with emphasis on the client component. The client is a JavaScript, AngularJS based, component that gives a similar user experience as the SharePoint environment. It was opted to build only one modular framework that consists of multiple modes and that can be opened in several applications within SharePoint. For example, a mode can be the drawing of a new domain, the management of the geographical data of a certain domain, the geographical search tool,… Depending on the application, multiple modes can be combined within this unique component. Information will only be saved in the GIS database when the workflow has been fully completed and approved in SharePoint. This modular way of programming enables the reuse of programmed tools and offers an easier maintainability of the code.
