I have a free public ArcGIS online account and have created several online maps. I have done some editing to some feature polygons in one of the online maps and would like to open the map in ArcMap 10.1 Desktop to save off the layers for back-up. So far I have been unsuccessful on getting the map layers to open. I always get a "Could Not Load the Specified File" Error. I tried opening other shared web maps and get the same error. Online datasets (Add option) open fine but not maps (Open option). I have tried the "View in ArcGIS 10" option from the map's details webpage and also signed in with my account in ArcMap 10.1 Desktop and tried to add it thatway to no avail. Is it the free account I have that is restricting me opening of already shared web maps or is it something else? Thanks in advance. I've gone through this but still don't understand why it won't work: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//00sp00000020000000

It is a free account. I had success once before in April 2013 on opening the online WebMap in the Desktop but have not been able to do it over the past couple days. Here is a Link: http://www.arcgis.com/explorer/?open=0dfd30591b9046a38b76d21949269289 It is a publicly shared experimental map. Also, it appears that I can't open any public Online WebMap to the 10.1 Desktop, not sure if that sheds any light in a certain direction...

I have been editing several feature polygons in the cloud of ArcGIS Online and wish to open the polygons in ArcMap 10.1 Desktop to save off. However, I have been unsuccessful in getting 10.1 to open with the polygons stored online. I have tried signing into my ArcGIS online account through the ArcMAp 10.1 Desktop and adding the map package, the online data transfer starts but then get "Could not Open Specified File" Error message. Likewise, if I go through ArcGIS online and click the open in ArcGIS 10 Desktop option, the same Error occurs. Is this a known issue or is there a work around? Thanks in Advance.
