Thanks Mike. we use AGOL for publishing and saving services, and at meanwhile we are developing a web application. which access AGOL for these services. we have lots of spatial saved in AGOL, and there could be many users from different clients using the Web Portal, need we set up different users and groups for them in AGOL so as to they could access different spatial data? or we use orgnization - users - authority - service management in our local WebPortal. Thanks again. Each person in your organization that is accessing content private to the organization should be one of the named users of your organization. You can purchase additional users as necessary. You share items with users through groups. So, if user A, B and C need access to a service, you would add those users to Group1 and share the service to that group. Do this for as many groups as you need. Users can be members of multiple groups. Thanks, Mike

Thanks Mike, I have no ArcGIS Server, all service are hosted into ArcGIS.online, but they are shared to different clients (groups). Need I set up a specific user for each group, and add related services for different groups? For a subscription of ArcGIS.com, only 5 users are included, but we have lots of customers and services usually. Yes. You can create groups and invite specific users into those groups. If your services are not hosted services and reside on your own ArcGIS Server, you will add an item "on the web" that points to the URL of a particular service. When you add the service as an item, if that service is secured (by ArcGIS Server), you can choose to embed the username and password as part of the item. This allows you to effectively override ArcGIS Server security and leverage ArcGIS Online security to control access to the service. Once your item is added, you'd add the item to specific groups. Thanks, Mike

May I use the relationship of group -- users -- services for different access authrities for different services? for example: Organization: Org Groups: G1; G2 Users: User1 (belong to G1); User2(belong to G2) services: FS1; FS2; MS3 FS1 will be shared to G1-User1 only; but FS2 and MS3 will be shared to G2-User2 Can we set up groups and users like above ? and how? Thanks.

Thanks Mike, I set up several folder in My Content and classify the services in different catogeries, it looks good. but still miss some items in ArcCatalog. For hosted services, you can organize your services into folders in My Content, but these folders don't appear in ArcGIS Desktop. thanks, Mike

Thanks Jace where could I set folders based on FGDC themes? what difference with Groups? Charles, As for the organization of services, we found it easiest to create folders based on the FGDC themes (Biota, Cadastre, Land Use, etc.) and move the services to the folders.

Thanks Mike ArcGIS Desktop V10.1 about 120 feature services and several map services I have not heard of this problem, but I've not published that many hosted services myself. What version of desktop are you running? What kind of services, both feature and map services? Can you see any pattern to what's not being shown? Thanks, Mike

I published about 100 services to ArcGIS Online, but I can't see some of them in "My Hosted Services" of ArcCatalog, but they are still into "My Content" of AGOL. does anybody have this kind of issue? There are too many services in AGOL, how to organize or sub-catagory these services according to different theme or project area so as to look for them easily. Thanks

The tiled map service is supported to ArcGIS.com, but for imagery what kind of service should we publish, map service or image service? The dynamic map server can be used in ArcGIS Server 10.1, how about ArcGIS Online?

Acctually we use JavaScript for customizing our web app without https, and the Identity Manager has been tested for this issue, but it doesn't work either. I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing... Tokens and SSL are really two separate things. ArcGIS Online uses tokens to provide access to services. When a client requests access to a service, the service challenges the client for credentials. The client provides the credentials and gets a token back that the client then uses to access the secured service. SSL provides a higher level of security for communication across the internet. THus, turning on SSL will make your site more secure because of the secured transmissions, but it is not necessary to simply restrict access to your services. It seems like you are writing your own JavaScript (?) web application that accesses the secured services over HTTPS? What browser and version are you using? Is your application also running over https? If not, and you are using Internet Explorer, try using Chrome or Firefox to run your application. They better handle http to https communications. Alternatively, you'll probably be better off writing your application to run over https. Are you using the IdentityManager to prompt for a username and password? Mike

Thanks Mike. you meant I should cancel the SSL in my ArcGIS Online Account? There are several feature servers with https (for example https://canacre.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=66b6eaf364d74fae8f664d1ed31f3c5b) which I published to ArcGIS Online, and it's OK when it was used in our app. But for the map service (https://tiles.arcgis.com/tiles/Kg6vHeZ3rwWQ6xlh/arcgis/rest/services/Imagery_BLW_TLine/MapServer?token=OeDORkc4cZLK79p8okicjOLgkYJYB5mWwQRNOP4Gu5Hgqy5jDqFY0Y6SHY6uKKuf), it doesn't work in our app. How could we deal with this situation. You never want to create an app that references a service with an embedded token. Tokens are not meant for this kind of use. It's not secure. Plus, tokens become stale quickly. Instead you should write the app and have the app request a token based on valid user credentials. Mike

Thanks Mike, please see RED comments below, but it was finished just now. What kind of service? Tiled or features? --- Feature service Did the service get created properly? --- should be correct because there is no error when publishing How long did it take? -- at lease 1- 2 hours and still creating service, and I closed it and restarted my computer but it's still slow. The amount of time it takes is influenced by the current load on the system. Maybe there were a lot of people creating services. After all, the cloud is one big time sharing machine 🙂 So far, we're not seeing any issues... Mike

Thanks Mike. May I piblish a piece of imagery as a map serveice with tokon to ArcGIS Online? I published one, and it looks good in ArcGIS.com, but it can't display the image layer consistently in our web app. We discussed with ESRI technical support, and they also have same issues. It doesn??t seem to be a reliable and secure way to use the image map service which I published to ArcGIS Online. Does anyone have same issues? Thanks.

Thanks Mike, This URL comes from the Service Directory(open the DETIAL for the map service, and click the URL below the Map Contents but this URL is not including the tokes information), and there are so much information there, ie. title info, spatial reference etc. I only share all my services to my organization, whatever feature service or map service, what I am wondering is why the token is only used for the map service instead of the ferture service, and why the spatial reference is converted to WGS84 automatically, and the orginal data is NAD_1983_UTM_Zone_17N? Where are you looking at this URL? If the service is secured (not shared with everyone), accessing it will require a token. This is what gives access to the service. For hosted services, if you are signed in, this token is passed automatically. However, sometimes you can see the token as part of the URL. Having said that, you never want to share the URL to your rest service with a token, or add it to a web map via URL that way. This is because tokens are short lived and expire and the URL will quickly be invalid. Each client application can get their own token by forcing the user to sign in. Mike
