Will this be recorded? I am unable to attend in person because I will be teaching my ArcGIS Online-reliant physical geography course. Thanks!

I just recently starting getting an error when I try to save the map in ArcGIS Online new map viewer: Failed to save map Missing value for required property: numThumbs. At first, by rearranging layers and moving any time-enabled layers to the bottom of the list, I could get past it. However, that is not working. I recreate the same map in classic map viewer and it saves with no problem. Anybody run into this and have a solution? If not, I am going back to the classic map viewer, especially for my students doing their labs.

Thank you, Melanie, for letting me know that nice little "trick"! I have successfully created 2 hosted feature layers, one with 9900 earthquakes and the other with 1433 volcanoes for my students to use. Since I could find nothing like either (that included all the attached data), I have shared them with everyone so that others can use them. I also created and shared a hosted feature layer containing the points of highest elevation for each country in the world from Peakbagger.com. Though it only has 193 features, I didn't find anything like it in ArcGIS or Living Atlas, so I put it out there. My students will be using it today in class. Thank you again!

Hi Melanie, Wow, thanks! I'll check this out, and yes, as faculty, I have an organizational account through my university.

Thanks everyone for your quick responses! Dan, you are correct - I am asking for my research, not publishing. Some of my individual datasets with which I have been working in ArcMap have several thousand features each since my study area contains 5,700 sq. km. I want to continue to work with and analyze these same datasets in ArcGIS Pro. It sounds like I don't need to be concerned with any limits. Thanks! ArcGIS Pro, here I come! Melanie, when I try to add a CSV to ArcGIS Online (AGO), if there are more than 1000 features in the CSV, AGO will only add 1000 after warning me of such. I use AGO extensively in the classes I teach (geology, physical geography), and so the work-around I use with the students is to break large numbers of features into multiple CSV files. For example, there are approximately 1500 active volcanoes in the world. To get all of them into AGO, I've had the students break the full set into subsets based on volcano type. Another example: when I ask the students to download recent earthquakes from the U.S.G.S. website, we can end up with HUGE datasets of 10,000 or more individual earthquakes for just part of one year. So, I have students manipulate the data search again by earthquake magnitude, depth, etc., to get multiple CSVs with no more than 1000 features each. Having multiple CSVs for the same features causes problems with symbology and analysis and increases the work load for acquisition of data and loading it into AGO. If anyone has a work-around or solution, it would be awesome! Cory

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions! Turns out that Chrome was somehow corrupted on my work computer, and it took IT working its magic to fix it since all of my efforts (culminating in uninstall-Chrome-and-reinstall-Chrome approach) didn't work. Exactly what IT did I can't tell you even though I watched what was done since IT remoted into my desktop - sorry. Just wanted to let the community know in case it happens to someone else.

Is there a feature import limit for ArcGIS Pro? For example, you can only import a maximum of 1000 features to ArcGIS Online, which I did not discover until I tried to add a data table with 1500 features in it. Is there a limit like that for ArcGIS Pro? I want to move my research from ArcMap to ArcGIS Pro if I can. Since my research involves large datasets, I would rather know upfront if this move is even feasible rather than start the process only to find out mid-transfer. Thanks!

Hi Rebecca! I appreciate your response. However, the root of the problem appears to have been Chrome on my desktop becoming corrupted when my internet connectivity went wonky. I was able to have full capability with ArcGIS Online (AGO) on my desktop through Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer. I was able to have full access to AGO through Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Internet Explorer on my laptop and on my computer at work. Clearly, this was completely restricted to Chrome on my desktop. IT and the tech folks at the university were baffled. So, I enlisted the assistance of Best Buy Geek Squad, and the tech who remoted into my desktop fully uninstalled Chrome (which I had done) but then also deleted EVERYthing regarding Chrome from my desktop, including not only the cache (which I had also done) but also all the hidden settings (which I had not done, incorrectly assuming that deleting Chrome would delete all settings files). Voila' - problem solved. I share this with you in the off chance that anyone has such problems again. The AGO Assistant is an awesome resource, and I have now bookmarked it. Thanks so much for your assistance!

Great post and explanation!!! Only question is this: what exactly do you mean by "some quality control of adjustments and transformations"? Kind of like that great cartoon.

I can no longer access basemaps in ArcGIS Online, either in a new map or an existing map I previously created before the problem started. I get these error messages. Basemap is not available. Displaying the default basemap instead. Unable to open map. Basemap is not available.... Displaying default basemap instead. In either case, it will not open my map. I am also having trouble accessing layers I find through Search for Layer in ArcGIS Online. I get this error message: "Unable to establish a secure connection to the layer. The layer, <layer name>, cannot be added to the map." This is for multiple layers in the search results. This is ONLY happening for me with Google Chrome on my desktop computer. I can access all content through Internet Edge on my desktop, through Google Chrome and Internet Edge on my laptop, and through Google Chrome on my office computer. I searched GeoNet and found that users were having similar problems last year and tried what was being suggested. I am still having the same problems. Since I teach classes that depend on my students use of ArcGIS Online and I need to create content for them, this is a MAJOR problem for me. Though I am an administrator for my department account, I am not (and will not be) an authorized caller for my university and its site license, and so Esri Tech Support cannot help me. Can someone please help me? Thanks!!!!

I am now having this same problem in ArcGIS Online. It started suddenly 3 days ago. I had just added a layer I created in ArcMap 10.5. I also had a major internet outage just after I added that layer. I can't open my existing content because it says the basemap is unavailable. Then, it says it is displaying the default basemap instead, but nothing displays. If I try to open a new map, no basemap displays. If I try to add any of the default basemaps, I get this. So, I click OK, and then I try to add a basemap, any basemap, from the Basemap button. With every basemap option, I get an error saying Basemap <name> is not available. If I try to add any other layer (Add > Search for Layers >any random content in ArcGIS Online or Living Atlas) from esri, it says the layer is unavailable. If I add a layer from someone other than Esri, I can add it for ~50-75% of the time. This is ONLY happening in Chrome. I have tried clearing the cache. I even uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome. I tried the CORS extension. Since it is clearly not a problem with our account, I have not even considered making any modifications to ArcGIS Online (I am an administrator but do not have call authority so esri tech support can't talk to me). Since I am able to do everything with no problems in Microsoft Edge at home as well as on my laptop in Chrome and on the school computer I use for teaching class, this is clearly limited to just Chrome on my desktop. Unfortunately, my desktop is my prime work station for all lesson planning, and I heavily use ArcGIS Online in my classes. I am very hamstrung at this point. I would surely appreciate it if anyone has any ideas. Thank you!
