Ryan, Dominique, Thanks for your responses. Good to know I wasn't missing something. Interesting that the scaleline should work with Mercator, but the measureaction be unable to handle it at this point. Looking forward to ESRI addressing the bug. Also good to know that I'm left with the backup option, which, at least, I can fine tune. Many thanks.

I'm learning the Silverlight API (2.2) by building a sample app and incorporating many of the features found in the interactive SDK. I've noticed a difference in the results returned from the ScaleLine and the MeasureAction measure tool. Please see the attached image, showing that the MeasureAction result in red displays 2 miles, where the ScaleLine displays 1 mile. I can confirm that the ScaleLine is correct, where the MeasureAction results are ~ 1.5-2x inflated. ScaleLine definition: <esri:ScaleLine Margin="5"
MapUnit="Meters"
VerticalAlignment="Bottom"
HorizontalAlignment="Left"
Map="{Binding ElementName=Map}" /> MeasureAction definition: <esri:MeasureAction AreaUnit="SquareMiles"
DisplayTotals="True"
DistanceUnit="Miles"
MapUnits="Meters"
MeasureMode="Polyline"
FillSymbol="{StaticResource DefaultFillSymbol}"
TargetName="Map"/> My base layer is the ubiquitous world street map layer: http://services.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Street_Map/MapServer. Any pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated! Interestingly, the results I'm getting are the same as in the interactive SDK - the sample must be incorrect? Additionally, I can return correct results using the 'Line Lengths' sample, but that includes a bit of code, compared to the simple XAML declaration for the MeasureAction sample. Obviously, I'd prefer less code, but it is nice to know I have a viable backup.

Thanks Ken, much appreciated. While I haven't figured out exactly why my program was failing, I discovered what was causing it to fail. For whatever reason, ArcObjects wouldn't recognize the intersect output filesystem location. It's a network drive and just couldn't get there. When repointing the program to a local geodatabase, the intersect worked as advertised, and in that case I used a simple semicolon delimited path string. Unfortunately, since the routine was not reporting a useful error, it took many attempts of trial and error, altering little bits as I went, to discover this. Why the dissolve and buffer could be output to the network but not the intersects is beyond me, but at least I have a suitable workaround for my coworkers for now.

Thanks all. The problem I'm having compared to the samples and documentation you suggest is that I want to intersect two feature classes, not just one. The examples demonstrate how to perform a given geoprocessing task against only one feature class, in which case the pathname or the feat class interface is passed into the routine. I can't find any examples of how to pass in multiple feature classes for the intersect, and my various attempts are failing. I've tried variations on semicolon-delimited pathnames, pathnames wrapped in single quotes, etc., and the routine simply fails when executing. I'd really love some example code of someone passing multiple feature classes into a geoprocessing routine because I'm obviously not doing what the object wants me to do, and unfortunately, an input type of 'object' is of absolutely no help in determining what to pass in.

All, I'm automating a process for some workmates involving 3 geoprocessing commands. I'm using ArcObjects C#. I'm having some difficulties getting the Intersect object to like what I'm passing it for in_features. Documentation is scarce and I can't find any examples. The input is of type object, which is horribly unhelpful, since if you pass it the apparently wrong type of object the thing just fails without any explanation. If someone has a .NET example of using ESRI.ArcGIS.AnalysisTools.Intersect please post your code. This repeated poke and hope approach is draining my time and patience. Many thanks.

Hey Steve, great to hear from you! Been out of GIS for a while, since I left you guys, but now back in the fold trying to remember everything I learned a few years ago. Nice to see the tighter integration with Visual Studio and .NET these days! I recently talked with Sue - feel free to get my email from her and drop me a line. I'd be curious what you guys are up to these days! C

I've had similar problems but was never able to fully sort it out before moving on to other tasks. I've noted that even when receiving that same message when setting breakpoints, the breakpoint is still hit when debugging, so you might want to give it a shot anyways. Aside from clearing out the bin folder as the prior poster suggests, you might also want to edit ArcMap.exe.config. Find <supportedRuntime version="v2.0.50727"/> And add <supportedRuntime version="v4.0"/> Some users have had success with this, from what I've been able to gather reading the forums. In my case, ArcMap simply opens and closes. Please let us know if you are able to solve the issue.

Thanks for your reply, Jeff. I stumbled across a very similar approach shortly after writing my post, so I'm very happy to see how it resembles your suggestion.

Using ArcMap, I'm having a bit of trouble with ArcObjects finding each layer in the TOC that has a relate defined. Can anyone point me in the right direction for looping through my layers and finding those that have relates defined on them? Additionally/alternatively, I'll want access on a per-feature basis: for a given relate, returning related attributes for a selected feature. Thanks!

Richard, Thanks again. I'm able to set breakpoints and can halt the code as expected. When ArcMap crashes I can load the dump file, but when attempting to run it I receive the following message: "Debugging information for 'ArcMap.exe' cannot be found or does not match. Symbols loaded (source information stripped)." When I continue debugging, I'm informed of an unhandled exception and have the option of examining what looks like assembler output. I'd like to simply be able to know where my code is crashing and view the stack trace. Any clues?

Richard, Thanks for the reply. It sounds like since you attach the process, you aren't describing add-ins? Is that correct? My impression from what I've looked at so far is that the VS2010 add-in template automatically calls ArcMap.exe as an external process and the debugger is attached that way. Sounds like you're manually attaching to ArcMap? What about bugs? Using the process you describe does the debugger pick up when bugs occur so you can examine the stack trace? Thanks, Cale

All, I'm a C# developer and know VS well. I developed VBA-backed ArcGIS solutions a number of years ago but am now getting back into GIS dev work. I've stepped through some ESRI examples for creating simple ArcMap Add-Ins and all makes sense, but I'm having problems with my breakpoints and debugging. Before launching into deeper questions, can someone briefly explain what a healthy ArcMap Add-In debug process looks like? As a hint for where I'm going: 1) I'm seeing "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document." problems with the breakpoints. 2) The ArcGIS crash reporter gizmo seems to prevent the debugger from halting the code so I can examine the stack trace. When debugging an ArcMap Add-In and you hit a bug, should Visual Studio then leap into action so I can examine the trace or do I have to examine the dump files? I'm on VS2010 and ArcGIS 10 on XP. Thanks tons, Cale

Jeff, I ran across this while delving deeper into the object model: http://help.arcgis.com/en/sdk/10.0/arcobjects_net/conceptualhelp/index.html#/d/000100000026000000.htm It's a developer sample for exporting the activeview to relevant formats. Looks like the updated version of the link you shared. C
